Tied Biederwand Star Medallion with Acanthus Leaves 1850-1900
ca 1850-1900. 77x80. The star medallion is gorgeous and the border has amazing double geometrics, which somewhat resemble Norwegian weaving patterns. It is tomato red and cream and made all in one piece, which may indicate power looming, however many of the star point motifs are distorted which might indicate hand looming. The boundary is composed of roses and leaves all around. The date for this piece is unconfirmed and thus is our best estimated based on the style and patters. The inner border has flying geese The top and bottom are hemmed and the sides look as though they may have had self-fringe at one time. This coverlet has a light discoloration and a few yarn losses. The condition is very good.
