Chinese Coin Pattern 1870-1890
1870-1890. 96x108. A truly massive piece. it is clearly unfinished and quite thin, yet still an absolutely beautiful patchwork design. Chinese coin rows are surrounded by rows of sashing composed of simple squares. The border of the whole piece consists of double rows of diamonds in squares. All pieces are either hand or machine pieced and are of a plethora of calicoes of the era: mourning prints, Lancaster blues, madders, burgundies, ginghams, stripes, polka dots, vermiculite, lilacs and more. There is no set pattern to the arrangement of the colors. It is all a glorious array arranged into a popular pattern of the day.
